Overplayed Band of the Week: THE HAUNTED

Wow, it’s been October since I did one of these. I guess you could say I haven’t been on the ball eh? Sheesh. Anyway, back to the grind. This week’s (month’s?) overplayed band of the week is one that has been bugging me for quite some time, and that band is The Haunted. Consisting primarily of post-thrash elements, as well as some Swedish melodic death, The Haunted are not what I’d call a bad band per se, just an incredibly boring one.

These guys have all the chops in the world, with band members hailing from all across the metalscape. I mean literally, The Haunted consists of a virtual smorgasbord of players from bands that range from really, really good, to legendary. Witchery? At the Gates? Invocator? Nightrage? Damn man, that’s some heavy shit right there! Still though, the “ommph” factor that was readily apparent in all these listed bands, was somehow set adrift when The Haunted became a reality. Why? Who the hell knows. All I know is that The Haunted is one of the few bands that should good, but in reality fail both in the recorded setting, as well as in the live setting. I mean what gives? This is one question I can’t answer, even with a clever, sarcastic quip.

In my opinion, I think The Haunted should call it a day, and invite the far superior, and much missed The Crown to take it’s place as Sweden’s most popular modern thrashers. This is a small request? Right?

Yeah I dunno what the deal is with this band.. Cool band name, cool members, some cool riffery? But there’s just always been something missing.

  2. Tim says:

    Agreed.

Is it just me or is AMR having technical difficulties? It might be my school network, but everything after the thing on vegas is cut off. And I can’t even view the vegas thing.

  3. CARTER says:

Tim what the fuck are you talking about

  4. cody says:

Tim – Not really sure what you are talking about man. You can’t see any of the posts?

  5. Tim says:

Only the newer ones before the vegas thing. My college net here sucks. So it’s whatever.

  6. Nate says:

A shitty connection wouldn’t just load half the page consistently. That formatting on the vegas story looks funky Cody…you might want to edit/repost that one and strip the weird formatting.

  7. CARTER says:

Tim.. what the fuck are you talking about?

  8. Tim says:

It’s fixed now. My apartment’s internet is shitty. It like randomly cuts things off. Stupid. Im thinking what Nate is talking about is spot on though.

  9. cody says:

It should be fine now since the post is on the second page if that’s what was causing it. I’ll check it out though to see if something is weird with it.

  10. Tim says:

Yeah. The 2nd page is blocked for the most part now though. Oh well.

The haunting are one of those bands in the category that gives me hope that they’ll figure it out and not suck. Sort of like Winds of Plague and Pathology.

  11. Tim says:

    I meant to say Haunted.

  12. CARTER says:

I dunno Tim it’s been a while. I think the Haunted have their niche fanbase, I don’t see them changing unless they swapped out a guitarist or the lead vocals dude. You never know though.

  13. !!CRP!! says:

Dammit! Perfect melodies in their songs!

Not that its 100% consistent, but from what I’ve seen in all branches of music, supergroups like this are all about a conglomeration of fanbases focused on trying to make a band that maintains the popularity of combined bands. Or even worse, its a dream team of musicians, each trying to outplay eachother. I’ve always felt that an actual chemistry, a history or whatever, behind a band, produces better music. No hate on the Haunted, but the whole idea of combining bands just doesn’t work for me all the time.
