Nightwish Vocalist Having Issues With Fame?

In a recent interview with Classic Metal Magazine, Nightwish founder Tuomas Holopainen discussed some interesting issues happening with their vocalist Anette Olzen (who if you have been living under a rock, replaced long time vocals Tarja Turinen a couple of years ago) who after a year or more of very heavy touring, has started showing cracks from the pressure to the point that she herself admitted that she might not be able to handle the rigors of performing with Nightwish. This is really a drag for me because the band’s last album Dark Passion Play (and the only one to feature Anette on vocals) I believe is their best to date. I thought the shift in vocal style was a welcomed refresher for the band and really brought forth something new. Hopefully once this last leg of their tour is finished they can take a breather so Anette can find her bearings because I don’t want to wait for another Nightwish album for another couple of years.

Annette isnt experienced enough vocalist, she could never withstand to the same level as nightwish band members from the beginning of her joining. Her voice doesnt match metal nor did it ever match with nightwish music its off key, I personally strongly believe there r better singers out there for such a sucessful band who can manage under the fortunes and effort like tarja***

I truly hope that Anette stays with Nightwish. Her voice is a good sound for them. I think that if she could pull this tour off like she did, she can handle anything else.

Put the End Of An Era DVD on, sit back, observe, admire & absorb the magic of a unique band, that obviously will never be the same again, regardless of Tomas’s genius & writing, or whoever sings .Tarja & the band were something really special & unsurpassed. Experiencing their progression & development into a magical unison of musical wonder, following them on tour from ‘97 through every tour till ‘05.
Good luck to them, they will succeed to create & blow most bands of today away, especially ‘live’.
But personally everything they do now is a bonus & i’m just greatful they continue.

I’m not surprised that she’s struggling – the 2007/2008 leg of the DPP tour was incredibly intense. They did 152 shows in 14 months D: I’m sure that’s the hardest tour they’ve done, poor Anette was really thrown in at the deep end. But they’ve had a break, and this 2009 leg of the tour is much calmer. I’m sure she’ll be fine by the end of that, and I doubt she’d readily give up on Nightwish. Besides, when I saw them live on 11th March they were all amazing, and Anette really outdid herself. Based on that gig, I’d say that the fire is burning brighter than ever. In short, no worries ;]
