Puscifer’s New EP May Have A Long Name, But It Makes Me Giggle

I find it kind of funny that Puscifer is so popular amongst the metal community considering it really isn’t metal music. In fact, there isn’t a heavy riff to be found anywhere on Puscifer’s latest effort, “C” is for (Please Insert Sophomoric Genitalia Reference Here) E.P., but it’s catchy, and I guess fun translates to even us hard boiled metal heads that often take things a bit too seriously in our music.

The brainchild of Tool mastermind Maynard James Keenan, Puscifer is more atmospheric than any form of rock that Keenan has undertaken before. This project isn’t designed to be edgy or rebellious, but rather a foray into art that transcends the narrow corridors of rock tradition (at least that is what I get out of it). I have never been big on Keenan’s work, and realistically, I don’t ever foresee myself becoming an outright Puscifer fan either, but this EP is something I have enjoyed listening to because its so damn creative and outworldly. Keenan has always challenged the metal and art house elite, and this piece is no different. I won’t be giving this too many listens, but an appreciation I do have for it. Keenan fans will undoubtedly rejoice, as they undoubtedly should.
