Cody’s Top 20 Albums of the 2000’s That Are NOT 2009

11 December, 2009 (01:21) | Editorials

So recently there has been an influex of best of the decade lists circulating throughout the Net, and I couldn’t let AMR sit on its laurels on such a momentous occasion. The last decade has seen probably the biggest surge in metal’s popularity since the mid-80’s, if not more, and has probably sparked a renaissance of sorts, of creativity in the community. It’s truly been an honor to be able to listen to metal over the last 10 years, and I can’t wait to hear what the next decade brings us! My list consists of my top 20 personal favorite albums of the decade. When coming up with this list, I had to realize what I was listening to way back during the first part of the decade, and if I was still listening to those artists today. It was truly a blast reminiscing over albums I haven’t heard in awhile. I hope you dig my list, and feel free to toss your own into the comments section!

The Ocean-Precambrian should at least be an honorable mention

Good album, but definitely not one of the best of the decade in my opinion.

I’d flip 3 and 4, move blackwater park up, move blood mountain up and get killswitch engage out alltogether. Youre number 1 choice is questionable, but I get that it’s all your opinion.

Not a bad list, not a great one. 3iob and CoB albums I would take out as well as the crap All Shale Perish and Protest.

I would include -

Isis – Panopticon
Moonsorrow – Verisäkeet
Electric Wizard – Dopethrone
Negur? Bunget -Om
Drudkh – Forgotten Legends

I’ve never listened to or heard of half of these…

Butttttt what about Leviathan? Ghost Reveries? Blue Record? The Way of All Flesh? From Mars to Sirius?

Matthew – Thanks for all the comments! I am going through and replying to them now. All the albums you mentioned are good, but Gojira I don’t consider good enough to be in a list of this magnitude and I really didn’t want to include multiple albums from the same band considering the sheer amount of albums put out that I had to pick from. As far as the Baroness goes, Blue is indeed a good record but I don’t think it measure up to its predecessor, and even that hasn’t become enough of a favorite of mine to justify its inclusion in this list. But check out some of these albums and let me know what you think!
