God of War III to Feature Unreleased Tracks From Roadrunner Artists

21 December, 2009 (20:39) | Metal news

The video game God of War III is going to be released as a special Ultimate Edition which will include an EP titled, God of War: Blood & Metal and will feature never before released tracks from Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Opeth, Dream Theater and Taking Down. Cool right? Well, the whole package is being sold for $99.99! What the fuck? I have an idea, why not download the damn tracks, and then buy the game for a still obtuse about of money, but a slightly less amount. God of War are cool games, so if you are an uber nerd and a fan of metal, then maybe you have the cash laying around since you live with your parents and/or have a better paying job than I do, to go out and buy this over-priced attempt by the video game industry to cash in on the public even more. … MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

From the press release:

“I have played the previous ‘God of War’ releases,” said Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones. “To be a part of this game in any fashion is amazing! Let the rivers flow red with blood; there is vengeance to bestow! Bring me more new finishing blows to my enemies!”

“Music has always been an important part of videogames and can help bring titles to life,” said Stig Asmussen, “God of War III” game director. “Our goal is to make ‘God of War III’ a special release in all areas and this just another way to offer fans and newcomers a worthwhile experience.”

“This is the first time in 24 years that we’ve written and recorded a song for anything other than one of our own albums, so we’re up for the challenge and excited to have been asked,” said Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy about recording an exclusive instrumental track for the soundtrack.

“When we were initially asked to write an original song for the game, we were slightly perplexed since we’ve never actually written a track for something other than a TRIVIUM record,” said Trivium guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy. “But we answered the call as we are fans of the game. Writing the song was a fun experience. We started piecing riffs together on tour and then we really put time into the song when we got home and had the chance to go into the practice space to work on our ideas as a group. This new song captures a certain energy we’ve been trying to harness on record as well, as it will show all our fans worldwide where Trivium is heading musically in the future.”
